2020-04-21 Fishing Reports

Freshwater (RonD):
1. Lev fished Durrance and fed the eagle. It was very busy on the lake with lots of boaters  paddle boarders etc, He did catch fish and the stomach was full of snails.
2. BrianP on Durrance Lake and Prospect with few fish caught.
3. Many club members fished Prospect on Thursday with some success, see RonD report on Chat.
4. Langford Lake extremely busy and noisy, with many fishing chironomids.
5. DennisG fished Elk Lake with Wee Tad on downrigger at 18 ft. Water was murky and full of algae. He caught a few good fish.
6. SandyM caught 4 nice fish on Prospect using AP emerger and Hares Ear nymph on a camo line. Marked many fish deep off the island
7. BillT informed us about a fisher who was fined $175 because the two people in the boat were not living at the same address, therefore were not considered to be socially isolating.

Salt Water (RyanA absent):
2020-04-18 John P soaked crab trap overnight in Portage Inlet one male dungeness but undersize, then soaked 1 hr in Oak Bay from shore, for 1 hr, nothing.
2020-04-16 JohnP soaked crab trap at Ship Point Wharf in DT Victoria, 1 large legal Red Rock.

Freshwater

  • BobC on Langford Lake Friday, black leach near bottom, 3 trout over 2 pounds.
  • BrianP on Durrance Lake yesterday morning.
  • SandyM on Durrance Lake yesterday afternoon, cold, windy, 2 fly rods surface and deep, hits on deep, shore people catching!
  • BillT on Langford Lake yesterday, 2 fisherman at boat launch said day before was great.
  • BarryF, DaleS, & ColinC on Langford today.
  • BillT & RonD fishing Langford Lake on Thursday.
  • Matt at Robinson Outdoors have daily sales on via their website, and Matts excellent fly designs on website.

Salt Water:

  • No reports.
  • Island Outfitters reports off/on.

2020-03-10 Fishing Reports

Freshwater:

  • Ron D. Barry reported that Dale had success on Durance Lake and Prospect, Barry not so much.
  • Sandy M. reported on a trip to Forks, Washington for spring steelhead fishing – licence fee $ 17/day –motels have fisherman rates $ 66/night.
  • April 8 Fish out at Fuller Lake near Chemainus/alternate date April 10.

Salt Water: Ryan A.

  • Roger G. caught an 8 lb. wild spring salmon – Oakbay flats
  • Note to boaters – make sure you have all the safety gear required, RCMP are checking.

2020-03-03 Fishing Reports

Freshwater:

  • Barry reported that Dale had success on Durance Lake and Prospect , Barry not so much.

2020-02-25 Fishing Reports

Freshwater:

1. Barry and Dale fished Prospect Friday – Dale got 26 to the boat, Barry none . Dale gave Barry a sample of a Tequila Booby.
2. Barry tied some flies from the sample, tried it out Mon. at Prospect lake-caught 6 – full sink line right out to the backing.
3. Barry brought in a sample of the Tequila Booby- check you tube.
4. Winston out for an hour in a float tube- 2 hits .
5. Roger reported on the Cowichan River high water fishing- brown – rainbows-1 steel head
6. March 11 fish out at Durance /alternate date March 13 – $ 2.00 hotdogs.
7. April 8 Fish out at Fuller Lake near Chemainus/alternate date April 10

Salt Water:

1. Bob C out Friday had a nice boat ride
2. Ryan reported that 15 and 16 lb chinook were caught off Fleming Beach.
