Sandy: Carry business cards and rack cards to give to people you meet while fishing.
Jim had close encounter with seal on Sooke River.
Salt Water:
Ryan: Spring off Constance Bank, 9 lbs.
Billings Spit: Fish still there.
Fresh Water:
Barry fishing on Prospect Lake, good size trout using Royal Coachman. John P using orange Boobie, one fish. Brian red-headed Wooly Bugger and down-rigger with plug, both did well.
Cecil on Elk Lake, Tequila Boobie, 12-14” trout.
Sooke River, lots of fish.
Fashion tip: if you wear black, fish may think you are a black bear.
Salt Water:
Winter spring fishing is picking up, reported to be excellent at Constance Bank.
Fresh Water:
Barry playing Hooky. Went fishing!!
Dave on Cowichan River, brown and rainbow trout on nymphs. It is a Pretty River, Fall Caddis is rusty colour, Early Caddis green, Summer Tan.
Prospect Lake with Woolly Bugger and downrigger, fish on each.
Cecil, fishing Sooke River, 8 fish and broke his rod. Brian and Bill in Sooke, lots of fish. Dennis got 6, lost 3.
Salt Water:
Ryan, 11 lb Coho at Otter Point at Sooke. Winter Springs are being caught. Halibut are showing up too.
Fresh Water:
Sooke River chum fishing has started. A number of members were successful. Fish were very fresh.
Winston Langford Lake good fishing, 14”, got away.
Brian and Bill, Prospect Lake good Fishing.
Salt Water:
Ryan, good one day, slow for 2 days at Sooke.
Roger fishing many locations in the Strait of Georgia over the summer, found salt water fishing spotty everywhere.
Fresh Water:
Durrance Lake, Barry and Colin, 2lb trout and some small bass.
Salt Water:
Ryan, lots of wild coho, only 3 hatchery keepers, Otter Point, 120’ deep, 4-8 lbs
Peter and John with Good Time Dave, boated 4 wild and 4 hatchery. Fishing well off Beechy Head. Good coho fishing generally at this time.
Peter – Poet Nook in Bamfield this summer, good fishing, but seals and sea lions taking a lot of hooked salmon, usually with terminal tackle as well.
Ron and Sandy – Sooke – took 7 hours to get back to Victoria because of accident and road closure, no fish at Sooke River estuary.
Dave reported how good Lampson Reels are at servicing their product.
Potential fishing closures in local waters are becoming a great concern. Ron will take lead on it.
